WHY is honored to partner once again with the Hard Rock for the 2009 "Imagine There's No Hunger" campaign. Building on the success of the 2008 campaign, we are confident that, working in concert with existing partners and new ones, we will reach even more children with highly nutritious and fresh food and build the capacity of grassroots partners to expand their outreach well into the future.
Kitale, Kenya: Common Ground Program, Pathfinder Academy Founded in 1995, The Common Ground Program (CGP) located in Western Kenya, runs the Pathfinder Academy, a primary school with 360 students, mainly orphans and vulnerable children ages 6 - 13. The school's sizable gardens feed the students.
Thailand: Pattanarak Foundation The Pattanarak Foundation works on the Thai border with Burma (Myanmar) running a training center to educate refugee youth and children in sustainable agriculture. The Foundation provides the youth with materials to assist them to set up their own farms, including seeds, seedlings, fish fingerlings, chicks and equipment.
Uganda: Hope North In northern Uganda, tens of thousands of children have been abducted to serve as soldiers in a brutal civil war. The war has made orphans and refugees of many others, with 1.6 million Ugandans forced into overcrowded camps. Hope North was created to give education, vocational training, community and hope to some of these young victims, while preserving their Acholi heritage.
China: Roots and Shoots Roots and Shoots is a program of the Jane Goodall Institute in China that works with 500 schools and groups throughout China through its Organic Garden and Poverty Alleviation Programs. Shanghai Roots & Shoots is the only legally registered (foreign-affiliated) NGO in China.
India: City of Joy City of Joy Aid is a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to helping some of the world's most underprivileged. Based in Calcutta, India, this network of clinics, schools, rehabilitation centers and hospital boats has brought relief to the poorest of the poor since 1981.
Haiti: Yele Haiti Yele Haiti is a foundation started by Grammy-Award winning musician, producer, social entrepreneur and Haitian Goodwill Ambassador Wyclef Jean that is changing thousands of lives in this poor but optimistic nation. Yele Haiti's mission is to create small-scale, manageable and replicable projects to contribute to Haiti's long-term progress in the areas of education, health, environment and community development.
Nicaragua: Project Bona Fide Project Bona Fide is a non-profit organization working toward sustaining culture through organic agriculture, community outreach, and re-forestation projects in Nicaragua. Project Bona Fide has been created out of a need to support rural Nicaraguan farming communities so that they may gain self-empowerment and economic stability.
Lesotho: Sentebale Sentebale is a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to helping orphans and vulnerable children in the African kingdom of Lesotho. Lesotho is a small land locked country with a population of 1.8 million of which 60% are below the age of 18. Average life expectancy is 35 years due to HIV/AIDS (Lesotho has the third highest rate of infection in the world) and the country imports 70% of its food needs from South Africa. Over 400,000 children are fed each day in school feeding programs and this is their main meal of the day.
