With special thanks and deep gratitude to Yoko Ono Lennon for playing a vital role in WHY's Hungerthon tradition. In 1994, Yoko generously allowed WHY to use Imagine There's No Hunger, along with John Lennon's self-portrait and signature, as our Hungerthon theme and logo. In 2008 and 2009, Yoko joined WHY and Hard Rock International in expanding the use of John Lennon's "Imagine", his name, and image to create a global campaign to improve the lives of hungry children in communities all around the world. In 2008 she donated "Give Peace A Chance" for Hard Rock International's Serve3 Charity CD, as well as John Lennon's "Gimme Some Truth" for the Serve4 Digital Album in 2009, with 100% of proceeds of both used to help WHY fight childhood hunger. We are most grateful for her generosity and support.

WHY is a leader in the global fight against hunger and poverty that connects grass roots organizations to funding expertise, publicity, policymakers, like-minded groups, and more, and, just as importantly, shares their answers with the world - the ultimate goal being not just to mitigate hunger, but wipe it out. Formerly known as World Hunger Year, WHY was founded in 1975 by the singer-songwriter Harry Chapin and radio talk-show host and current Executive Director Bill Ayres as a means to do the following:
* Attack the root causes of hunger and poverty by promoting effective and innovative community-based solutions that create self-reliance, economic justice, and food security.
* Provide technical assistance, models for replication, and fundraising and media support to help community organization develop new business models based on self-reliance for their clients.
* Operate as a Non-Governmental Organization at the United Nations to advance micro-lending, sustainable agriculture, and access to clean water throughout the world.
* Help thousands of America's hungry find food and social services in their neighborhoods through the National Hunger Hotline (1-866-3-HUNGRY).
* Work with performers such as Bruce Springsteen, Michael McDonald, Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels, Aerosmith, Chicago, Lupe Fiasco and Joe D'Urso to raise awareness and fund for community-based organizations.
* Educate the general public and offer an original classroom curriculum to teach children about the problems of hunger and poverty, and inspire them to action through community service.
More than just a music legend, John Lennon was also an outspoken activist, which is why we're honored to offer a selection of limited edition 2009 "Imagine" Hungerthon/Hard Rock Cafe pins, T-shirts and sweatshirts, not to mention the Serve4 CD featuring tracks by Lennon and twelve more of your favorite artists. You can donate at a number of different levels, depending on your ability. All donations are tax deductible. Donate now
