WHY Premieres First Public Service Campaign to Raise Hunger Awareness in U.S.

WHY premiered a powerful public service (PSA) campaign that addresses the grim realities of hunger in the United States. The Desperate spots were created to educate the general public about the growing cost of food and the number of Americans who are turning to organizations like WHY to make ends meet. The spot envisions a world order in which basic groceries are priced too high for most people to buy and the social unrest created by this injustice.

The campaign was developed by Duncan/Channon and produced in collaboration with Boxer Films, Vendetta Post, Syndicate, emoto music and M Squared. All creative services for the PSA services were donated to WHY.

“Hunger and poverty are increasing all around the world and families are making tough choices based on their financial realities. When food becomes unaffordable our dignity, survival, and peace are at stake," said Noreen Springstead, Director of Fundraising and Marketing, WHY. "WHY’s commercial speaks to the common experience so many Americans are facing as they struggle to put food on the table, and we hope that people will support our cause to ensure healthy, affordable food for all.”

“The issue of hunger is very real in the richest country on Earth, and it's gotten much worse in the current recession,” said Robert Duncan, partner, Duncan/Channon. “Our creative team, Dave Knox and Ken Hall, envisioned a reality not so far from our own in order to bring hunger home to those of us who are not suffering."
