Food Movement Voices

Race and the Food System

Race, as a complex social construct is embedded in the historical roots of the United States, is a significant variable in equitable access to healthy food. The food system, as it functions today, is part and parcel of the historical pattern of denying certain people land, resources and power based on their ethnic group and/or skin color.
