The Global Movements Program works with social movement and NGO partners at the intersection of international and domestic food and agriculture issues.
We work to amplify the voices of grassroots leaders; to raise awareness and support for global struggles; to advocate for policy change; to build alliances across different sectors of the food system; and to support sustainable and just alternatives to the predominant global systems of agriculture, food distribution, and trade.
Our guiding framework is food sovereignty, the right of people to control their own food and agriculture policies. We are proud to be an ally organization of La Via Campesina, a powerful global network of farmers, farmworkers, fisherfolk and indigenous peoples who are leading the charge in the call for food sovereignty.
One of our primary strategies is to build linkages among US-based movements for food justice and food system change and international movements for food sovereignty.
We participate in a range of US-based and international coalitions and civil society networks, as well as participating in United Nations meetings on sustainable development and human rights.
Our current focus areas include:
* The World Food Crisis
* Food Sovereignty, Food Justice & the Right to Food
* Local and Regional Food Systems
* Sustainable Agriculture & Sustainable Livelihoods
* Urban Agriculture
* Water Wars & Water Justice
* Energy, Climate Change, & Food
* Trade Justice & Trade Reform
